Following is a brief description on the renewable energy issue from an environmental prospect to put the basis for the planned enviro-cultural project. The Energy versus Environment Crisis: Climate Change, Global Warming and Air Pollution
Energy production and consumption have serious negative impacts on the environment. The dependence on energy to maintain life and the increased urbanization have led to the increase in consumption of fossil fuels for the production of energy. Burning fossil fuels has resulted in the production of greenhouse gas emissions. These emissions include many pollutants and particulates that are the main cause of air pollution. Additionally, emissions of greenhouse gases lead to an acceleration of the process of global warming and thus to climate change. Global climate change poses risks to human health and ecosystems and has become the leading global environmental problem. Evidently, the global recognition of the gravity of climate change justifies the need to promote alternative energy sources.

The Project will promote & foster the creativity & ability of Syrian Artists/inventors by motivating and encouraging them to think of this environmental aspect or concern and engage in a cultural-environmental awareness project that will educate and orient the people and official authorities towards utilizing & depending on clean renewable energy sources in many of their living uses, so the participants in this project will have several options to participate through them and the opportunity of using different artistic materials or tools to express their ideas and impressions about the topic of the project, and the artists will do their best to produce and create art works that shows and reflects their artistic talents and viewpoints to the Syrian and European citizens, and the proposed action aims to highlight this important aspect of environmental protection, by presenting and showing the growing international interest for renewable energy sources to the Syrian people in a way that encourage and motivate them to change their ideas and modify their practices and adapt friendly ways towards the environment while dealing with the energy issue, and the project will achieve that by inviting young emerging artists and interested talented people to express & submit their ideas, thoughts, inventions, creations that shows the importance, necessity, and great benefits that we can get from using such cheap, clean(non-polluting) and non-ending(depleting) energy sources demonstrating that according to their genius thoughts, imaginations and perceptible visualizations and through an open competitions.

The increased demand on energy sources in Syria and the region, the overgrowth of population, the economical development, the declining in oil reserves, and the disturbing, growing electricity problems had made the interest in other sustainable energy sources an urgent need and a must to do work ,also the air pollution (mainly from burning of oil and fuel products) in most Syrian cities had reached an alarming and health-risky degrees and immediate acts should be done to alleviate and mitigate the problem, so this project aims to encourage people and decision-makers to shift or at-least try to use renewable, clean energy sources in their energy needed uses, through an art events that will attract people from different interests, talents to express their ideas and viewpoints about this matter by different means.
